Sunday Reflections: General Hospital, Bold and Beautiful and Marlena’s Radio Days

By Marlena De Lacroix a.k.a. Connie Passalacqua Hayman

General Hospital:  Heather! Heather! Heather! That’s practically all the GH audience is seeing this summer.  Last month I praised multi-soap veteran actress Robin Mattson to the sky, placing her very much toward the top of the Soap Villains Hall of Fame (which I made up.)

Now it’s time to praise another GH actress, Lisa LoCicero, who plays Olivia Falconeri.

But let’s first go back to LoCicero’s daytime debut in 1995, when Marlena was a newspaper columnist. I liked to interview only the best of young actors, and get them early on in their soap tenure. So shortly after LoCicero joined Loving as Jocelyn Roberts Brown (she later graduated to The City in the same role.)  I requested an interview with her because I thought she was so [Read more...]

Happy 20th Anniversary, Soap Opera Weekly!

By Connie Passalacqua Hayman

Happy 20th anniversary, Soap Opera Weekly!  Congratulations to the generations of writers, editors, production, art and business people who have worked on the magazine over the years.  I was  lucky to be one of them, from its launch on November 21, 1989 through the magazine’s first eleven years. Each http://www.hollywood-dreams.com/images/uploads/sowsept595.jpgweek, under the pen name Marlena De Lacroix, I wrote Critical Condition, the magazine’s  ultra popular, original critical/humor column — 543 of them!

Marlena Returns to Brandon’s Buzz!

Though our Marlena (a.k.a. Connie Passalacqua Hayman) is supposed to be on vacation, an invitation to appear on blogtalkradio’s Brandon’s Buzz on Friday, July 31, proved irresistible.brandon's buzz

So she’s put aside her summer poolside re-reading of Gone With the Wind and has been espied of late poring over the cast lists of the eight surviving network soaps.  As she studies the lists, she laughs, she scoffs, she giggles, she shakes her head in wonder and dismay. What is she thinking? We’ll have to tune in to find out.

Brandon, her old friend and knowledgeable host of the weekly show, promises:

“Her first visit was such a smashing success that she’s coming back for more! Marlena De Lacroix herself returns to Brandon’s Buzz to discuss the continuing disintegration of All My Children, to debunk a series of daytime myths, and to question seriously whether The Young and the Restless lives up to the deafening hype that surrounds it!”
